Look! I'm in college!

Karen and I went to Castries where Karen teaches a business course.

The people on the streets stared at me because I’m different. I'm flat. No one else in Saint Lucia is flat and I felt bad. Karen made me feel better. She told me that people are just curious. Karen is different too and people stare at her. Karen says that there are a lot of differences when you visit another country and being flat is just one of them. It's really alright to feel different.

The students in Karen's class loved me. We are throwing the PEACE sign to show friendship.

  1. hi flat erika,
when i was a peace corps volunteer in honduras; people would always stare at me because i had red hair. nobody in honduras has red hair!!!! i know it must be difficult, but hang in there. in the end, you will be a much stronger and confident person.

  5. Hi Flat Erika,

It looks like being different hasn't stopped you from making friends on the island. Being different makes us all who we are. We just need to accept each other with all of our differences. So, I'm sure you're enjoying St. Lucia. What's been the most interesting thing you've observed that's different about life at home?

  7. Hi Weezie - It is nice to meet you. Kristie and Autumn, I have so much to tell you but it must wait until later tonight. I am very busy with Karen right now. We are at the Village Library preparing an exhibit for Saint Lucia's 30 Year Independence. In a couple of hours we are going to the airport to meet the new group of Peace Corps Trainees. I will answer your questions and tell you all about this later tonight. I miss you "Real 3D Erika"!

  8. Hi Weezie, I like hugs so it will be nice to see Jay, but thanks for the warning. The weather is very windy right now. At night the winds are about 55 miles per hour! It sounds like a dog howling through the village. It is also raining, but at the same time it is in the upper 70's so it is hot. It never gets cold enough to wear a sweater here. It stays hot because we are so close to the equator. Yes, I am having fun with Karen and you are right about her being funny! She is probably the funniest person I know.

  9. Hi Kristie - humm, there are a lot of interesting things about this island. People are very friendly and I am very safe in this village. Everyone knows where I live and they all look out for me. I learned a lot about Saint Lucian History and I think it is interesting. I will be telling you about that starting tonight. I knew you would support me even though I'm flat!
